Client: BBC / Leeds College of Music
As the new home for the BBC in the North, this development in the Quarry Hill area of Leeds not only provides new office accommodation but also a 360 seat performance space, radio and TV studios. The accommodation is linked by a central entrance foyer and atrium overlooking a new public piazza.
DLA's design for the award winning new Public Square was developed in collaboration with the sculptor Walter Jack.
The concept for the scheme was to create a stage like setting for the new landmark building. This was achieved through the provision of a steel sculpture - designed to represent the idea of a stage curtain with timber decking being used to represent the stage itself.
DLA were pivotal in the inclusion of the piece of public art and worked hard to integrate this dramatic sculpture into the public space.
